Description

We call these “worteldoek”. Freely translated that means carrot cloth. The name came from German farm workers who traveled from Germany over Europe. They had in these kind of cloths their belongings and tools to harvest the carrots. The noble picked up on the patterns and made them fashionable as Kashmir patterns, hence the paisley shawl. Eventually they had all kind of use eg. behind a coat rack, in a triangle to keep the chalk from the coats. And later on as a shawl.

Gorgeous antique Dutch Paisley shawl/table cloth. Typical Dutch folklore item. Usable on both sides. Not sure where it is made of.

There are a few fringes missing and shorter, see pictures. Overall in very good condition.
Appr. 31 1/2″ or 80 cm long and 28″ wide or 71 cm. Fringes on the sides, fringes not included in the size.
