Description
We call these “worteldoek”. Freely translated that means carrot cloth. The name came from German farm workers who traveled from Germany over Europe. They had in these kind of cloths their belongings and tools to harvest the carrots. The noble picked up on the patterns and made them fashionable as Kashmir patterns, hence the paisley shawl. Eventually they had all kind of use e.g. behind a coat rack, in a triangle to keep the chalk from the coats. And later on as a shawl.
